AAPA and DITT joint prosecution

Yesterday a directions hearing was held in the Northern Territory Local Court in relation to alleged breaches of the Northern Territory Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act, the Minerals Titles Act and the Mining Management Act by Mr Scott Smith and Mrs Kimberley Smith.

In joint proceedings, the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority (AAPA) and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT) allege that Mr Smith entered the historical Tosca Mine on Ammaroo Station in June and August 2022 and removed turquoise from within a sacred site without lawful authorisation. 

Mrs Smith appeared at the mention via telephone and a five-day hearing has been set commencing 14^th October 2024.
